The committee of the Surrey County Cricket Club have invited the United members of the Australian team to the club's annual dinner on the 7th prox. Received April 24, 11 a.m. London, April 23. The cargo of frozen mutton on board the steamship Lusitania arrived in good condition, a portion of the shipment realizing s_d per pound.' In the House of Commons to-day the Contagious Disease (animals) Bill, the object of which is to prohibit the importation of live animals from countries where the foot and mouth disease exists, came up for further consideration. Several amendments were proposed by the Government ou the provisions of Bill aa passed by the House of Lords, but the House refused to agree to the amendments. London, April 22. The Daily Telegraph recommends that the Government should organise a cordon around new Caledonia, for the protection of the Australasian colonies and the islands of the Pacific, if France persists in deporting criminals thither.
