Shocking Tragedy
r: A tragedy occurred in the south of • France on February 29th . A gardener Vnamed Cbeve, employed at the convent in Ser-riane, near Marseilles, was recently dismissed for laziness. That day, while the Sifters were walking iv the groundf, and at a moment while they %er#ih a secluded place, Cheve Suddenly appeared. The Lady Superior Wiked him kindly if he had found work* , Cheyfc withou' replying, drew a rev<>tver,- v an«l discharged six barrel?, killing the Lady .Superior and mortally wounding rint? '-of- -iier comp&n ions . The remainder fled; skriekiiig for h ejp. Anuniber of peasants gath' red , but Cheve reloaded and ke^jt them at bay. Two * gendarmes then arrived and kclorped: with Cheve who fired wice without hitting them. One tgeodarme >hot Cheve in the chest, aud another bullet penetrated the murderer's ear. Cheve, in his dying agony, inflicted on himself a third mortar wound with his own revolver.
