Haweis (sic) a conservative candidate, was elected yesterday by an increased majo ty as representative for the Poole constituency, made vacant by the death of Charles Schreibes, conservative. Constantinople, April 17. The Archduke Rudolph, Prince Imperial of Austria, arrived in this city on a viait to the Sultan. His Highness was accorded a splendid reception. Received April 19, 11.40 a.m. London, April 18. It has transpired that a note has been addressed by M. Ferry, the French Premier and Foreign Minister, to the English Government on the subject of the Recdiviste question. Ferry reaffirms the opinion of bis Government that tbe question of transport of criminals is a matter of internal policy alone, and in no way concerns any foreign power. Sir William Vernon Harcourt, Homo Secretary, addressed his constituents at Derby last eyening. In the course of his speech he took occasion to say that he entirely disagreed with the opinion recently expressed by Earl Roseberry at Dundee thafc the Government manifested a want of interest in colonial affairs. Caibo, April 17. Intelligence has been received here from Khartoum that General Gordon decided to appoint Zebehr Pasha to the position of Assistant-Governor of Soudan, bufc Zebehr declined to accept the post. London, April 17. A letter in refernce t© the recent death of the Duke of Albany has been addressed by the Queen to Sir William Vernon Harcourt, in the course of which Her Majesty thanks all her subjects for their loyal sympathy in her bereavement, and states that, despite her deep sorrow at the death of Prince Leopold, she will continue to labour for the good of her country and prosperity of her people. Information has been received from General Gordon that unless he is relieved he will attempt to retreat, as his storo of ammunition is scanty. Her Majesty the Queen has arrived safely at Darmstadt. Mr Parnell, in addressing a 1 meeting at Drogheda, denounced the nationalisation ot the land agitationBaron Maclay has privately complained of the continued kidnapping in tho Pacific. It is reported that the French havo occupied Amoy in default of payment of the imdemnity. A number of the English detectives are in Paris tracking the Irish conspirators. Her Majesty the Queen has handsomely responded to the address of condolence from tho Victorian Government, and retaius th<-S lelogr.im. Calcutt a, April 17. Telegrams are to hand from Rangoon reporting that a most disastrous fire occurred there, trcmondous loss of property having resulted. '
