: — + THE LATE PRINCE LEOPOLD John Bevan, Esq . District Grand Maser, and District Grand frupenutendent, ofthe Koyal Arch Ma oris of Westland, X.C, has notified to the various Lodges and Chapters in bis district* t>> as-unm-* Masonic mourning as a mark of esteem and respect f.-r the late Prince who was a z->mlous Mason. The late Prince Leopold was initiated on May Ist, 1874, in the Apolo University Lodge, Ox;ord. and ' passed to the 2. id degree ou the 20th of. November, 1874. He took rhe 3rd degr-ce on the 17th of April, 1875, iv the same Lodge, and was advanced in the Supreme Council, iv March 1876. In^the same month II li 11. was installed Provincial Grand Master ofthe Province ot Uxford. H.ItH. was next el cteu Ma-ter ofthe Lnd<r« of Antiquity No. 2. in February, 187o\ In 1877, he was appointed Junior Grand Warden ot England, his brother, the Duke ot Couau_ht, bein^ •""ieuior W arden. On November i lth, H H.ll. was installed into the Command r*-* < hair in the (Jour de Lion Preceptor)' ot the Province of Oxford. H.H.H. presided at the annual Masonic. Festival for the Girl's ->cbool. on the 16 h of April. 1880. on which occasion. £15,000 was contributed to that noble charity No later than January 29rh last, our Royal brother, was received and took part in the ceremonies of our bretheru of Durham, and in. February was again elected to tbe chair bf a private lodge H.R H. «as also a Grand Superintendent in the Royal Arch Masons, and a Past Grand Master in the • ark Lodge, and there can he no doubt, by hi« early death Freemasonry ha-* lost one of its brightesr ornaments, and one who worked well to promote its interest as he did for he general welfare of mankind. — Hokitika Star.
