Preparations are being made here to quarantine passengers by the P. and O. steamship Rome, which has arrived at Albany with the small pox on board. Melbourne, April 9. Arrived, yesterday, Manapouri, from the Bluff. An inquest has been held at Geeloncron the body of Kitchen, the driver ofthe cattle train who was killed by the Little River collision. The evidence taken showed that the " staff" regulations have of late been constantly in abeyance. The trial of Bid die, '„_„, Vrernree stationmaster, for manslaughter in connection with the recent accident, is fixed for July. The proposed investigation of the circumstances attending the Little River collision has not yet commenced. The following re-arrangement of political offices is announced: — Mr Gillies becomes Minister of Public Instruction, and retains the portfolio of Works; Mr Berry relinquishes the Postmaster-Gen* eralship, which is taken by Mr James Campbell Thornley, M.L.C.; who joins the Ministry without a portfolo. ... Adelaide. April 9. The general elections are now proceeding. Mr Glyde, Colonial Treasurer, haa been defeated ; Mr Bray, Premier has been re-elected. Sydney. April 9* Martin-Henry has had a partial knock out in the Cup betting, Em pres? being now the favorite at 6 to 1. . For the St. Leger. Martini-Henry and Le Grand are equal favorites. Tawhaio visited the Government offices to-day, and received attention from the Ministers, who were present.
