Manchester Road Board

— The following business was transacted after we went to press on Saturday Jast. With reference to the contractors for ihe Mangaone road, they were ia attendance, and Mr O'Hara wa9 called in and stated he had pushed on the work with all possible energy, but the bad weather coming on had interfered with his operations. The Chairman informed Mr O'Hara that if the extension was granted, the sureties would hare to enter into netbonds. The Board would also require additional security to that of the former sureties. Mr O'Hara stated his willingness to do this, and then withdrew. After some conversation among the Wardens he was re-admh ted and informed that the Board was inclined to make *■ oew contract on his finding the new securities. The progress payment applied for of £88 would be made when this was done. A petition waa read from certain residents in Salisbury street, Ashurst, asking it to be formed. The Chairman stated that the Board had no funds at present, to do this work but would do so when circumstances permitted. A general conversation took place on the financial condition of the Board. The conclusion arrived at was thai, the most rigid economy must be obse: ved. It was then proposed by Warden Builej* seconded by Warden Linton, That ihe tenders for Wilson's line be he'd over toibenextmeeii-igof theßoa«-d. Carried. 'fenders for forming ihe Uanguiawa road were then opened. Palmer, £20; Behrent, £15 10s; Heappie. £30. The tender of Behrent was accepted. Warden Linton proposed and Warden Bailey seconded, That the Engineer be authorised to expend £15 oa the road leading into the Waituna Valley. — Carried. Iu reply to a question from the Chair man, Mr Bray stated that he would charge four per cent, for collecting tue : ordinary and special rates. He asked j that the power of collecting ,- »e transferred ito his son. The request was granted, and a resolution was passed in accordance. Accounts amouuting to £1240 14s were passed. The meeting then adjourned to Saturday April 26th.
