♦ BE-TKB _ TELEGBAMS. Received April 8, 1 a.m. Mklboubne, April 7. The Adelaide- Wairarapa enquiry was continued to-day. P. Opham, chief officer of the Wairarapa, stated that the Wairarapa did not wail for the Adelaide, and declared that the Wairarapa steered splendidly, and kept the right course, and that the Adelaide yawed about. This evidence was corroborated by the third mate, Anderson r Melbourne. April 7. The persons wonnded by the recent railway accident are all progressing favorably towards recovery. The members of tbe board inquiry have inspected the scene of the disaster. The Wairarapa-Adelaide inquiry wa* resumed this morning. Altogether there are seventeen witnesses from the Adelaide and eighteen from the Wairarapa to be examined. To-day has been observed as a day of general mourning through-tout the colony for the late Dukt-* of Albany. The majority of the citizens of Melbourne were dressed in black, and. flags were flown on all the public buildings at halfmast. Sydney, April 7. Heavy rain has fallen pretty generally throughout the colony, and empty dams have been replenished. The downpour in Sydney has been exceptionally heavy, fully ten inches having been recorded since the 4th. At the Hawkesbury Bace Club's Autumn meeting on Saturday, the Handicap Bice was one by Empress, with Phy di** vecond. and Sardonyx, third. Twelve horses started. Empress' was the favorite, and ' won easily. The Maiden Plate was won byßargo.
