The Tuhua Gold Fields
To-dny's Chronicle says : — " There was considerable interest manifested in the deoarture of the prospecting party for their destination yesterday. Fortunately the weather was beautifully fine, and they started under very favorable auspices, a good crowd being on the beach to see them cast off from the staging ftf the Wanganui Rowing Club's shed. A capital canoe had been secured for the voyage, capable of carrying the large store of provisions, <fee, and the prospecting party, with three natives to propel them. Every precaution had been made for the trip, provision of all kinds being supplied to last for two months, in addition to which there were the tents and tools, with the requisites for sharpening tools, &c, when required. There must have been fully three-quarters of a ton of stuff in the canoe, which was very low in the water, and, as a strong wind was blowing up the river, the natives took her up to Mr Woon's boatshed before the party went on board.
