Severe Rules Towards Jockeys
' hft Jockey Clubs at Home do not intend to hold their hands at trainers' malpractice: as jockeys who uamhle and owe horses are also marked. I lie Racing Caiander of Jun 3 has the following : — ' Jockeys wi>hine to have their lid-rice* to ride under the r.ilos of r cin# renewed ./for 1884, are requested to npply as early as possible, givinpr their Christian names and full udresses to Messrs VVeatbeby. The stewards of the Jockey Club pivu notice ;that in future licences will only be granted to jockeys on conditions that they are not owuers «>r part -owners of any racehorse. Leave may be given, on special application, to jockeys to own one or more horses, but this permission wi I only be granted when the jockey is also a trainer, and the horse is to be trained in his own stable. It having been respresented to the stewards of the Jockey Club that 'many jockeys are in the habit of betting largely ou horsera ing, the stewards hereby give notice that such practice will not be tolerated in future ; aud that any jockey who rauy be reported to them or this offence, ana who may be proved to the satisfaction of the .stewards to have become engaged in betting- transactions, will be liable to have vis licence at once withdrawn. 11
