An Unfortunate Sheep Farmer

(per united press association.) Xaikoura, March 10. Before Mr White foord, R.M., to-day, Walter Gibson, lessee of the Warden lytler and Jam runs, was fined 4d per head on forty thousand infected sheep, although the Sheep Inspector admitted that the defendant had done all that was possible to eradicate the scab. The defendant, since he came into possession of the runs in 18H1, has spent a lame sum of money in the endeavour to stamp out the infection, one-half of the flock being really clean. Twenty miles of fencing has been erected, and another ten miles are in course of construction over a country more rugged than any other run in the provincial district.
