Makino Boiling Down Factory
The boiling down establishment of Mr A. Bell, on the Makino road, is now in -fallnwrag;. We have had the pleasure of being shown over the premises, and seeing the wjioje thin*; at work. The boiler, or rather, digester, which is new. and was manufactured by Mr Murray; of Wanganui, contains 30 sheep, which is the number " digested " every day, and from which upwards of half a ton of tallow in produced. This is being sent away in large 4ja»ks, m> ■ route for the London market, where there is a good demand. Preparation* are 'being mnde for a largo, fellmongery in connection with the busineiM, of which M rF. H Pfteikin i» th»sole manager, fortwhich he apjiears to bt« well qualified. All the plant is first-rate, with aU tke latest appliances. There is » splendid uupply of water, and erery faoilily for eanqring on operations, nnd winrediet for this industry a considerable imonnt«>f«ueeesi.
