Roads in the Harbor Block
PUBLIC MEETING AT FEILDING. In accordance with an advertisement a public meeting of settlers in the Wanganui Harbor Board Endowment Block, and of owners of property thereon resident ia Feilding, was held at Mr Pollock's it'estaurant, Manchester street, yesterday morning, for the purpose of taking into consideration the best steps to take with reference to the matter of getting roads made on the Block. About 20 persons were present. Mr E. H. Wright was present as a representative of an owner of property, and on the motion of Mr Pope; he wa« voted to the chnir. After reading the advertisement of the meeting from the Stab, he said it was absolutely necessary for the well-being of the settlers on the Block that roads be made. He regretted the absence of Mr Bellve, their own warden, who, he thought ouirht to have been present. He urged the settlers present to look after their own interests in the matter. He suggested lhat they resolve to have surveys made for what roads are required, and apply through the Kiwitea Road Board to the Government for a grant under the Roads «nd Bridges Construction Act. He recommended them to come to a resolution so as to lay the matter before the Kiwitea Road Board, which would meet in the afternoon. The matter waslhen discussed in a conversational way, and the absence of Mr Bellve, the warden »f the Kiwitea Road Board specially concerned in that part of the district, was generally regretted. Ultimately the following resolution, proposed by Mr Finnis. and seconded by Mr Pope, was unanimously carried : — " That a deputation consisting of .Messrs Hayes, Hannington, Finnis and the Chairman be appointed to wait upon the Kiwitea Road Board this afternoon, to make the proper arrangements for borrowing money under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, so as to maki* free ingress ami egress to the sections occupied bj settlers upon the Wanginni Harbor Board Endowment Block, also to curry oaf at once, if possible, the woks required at the siding marked A on lie plan." This cloned the business, and After a vote ot thinks to the chairman, the meting dispersed.
