HORSE SALE.

Messrs Halcombe and Sherwill held their usual monthly sale of horses at Morphy's Repository on Saturday afternoon last. Owing probably to the fact that many settlers were taking advantage of the fine weather for looking after their crops, the attendance was not so large as usual, and the bidding was not so brisk as on some former occasions. A number hacks changed hands at from £3 10s to £10. Wellington, Feb. 2. George Thomas reports produce prices as follows: Flour, £11; oatmeal, £11 10s; wheat (milling), 4s 2d ; fowl' do, 3s ; barley, 2s yd ; maize, 3s 9d to 4s ; bran, £4 6s ; pollard, £5 ; peas, 3s 9d ; beans, 4s ; potatoes, £4 10s to £5 ; bacon and hams, 9d to 9jd all reund ; old cheese, 3d to 3£d; new do, s§d to 6d ; salt butter has been enquired for at 7d ; onions, supply rather limited at £9; chaff, scarce, £5 ss. A fair business has been done in oats and flour, but other lines move quietly in retail lines. The fruit market has been exceedinglw brisk, and prices for certain fruits have become quite phenomenal, but as the holiday season is now about over, I do not expect the present rates to be maintained.
