Yeaterday afternoon some mischievous youngsters set fire to the flax immediately behind- Mr. J. WKsjker's old shop in Eyre itreet. The, flames spread with great *, rapidity, and but .for the prompt and energetic action of five or six persona who, with spades j. axes, Ac, out an open* ing m the flax so as to prevent the;' fur* ther^prekd of the &e,jt is believed that the residence -of Mr Holman, if not one or two more dwelli-g houses and other property would have been m danger of being- deatrtoyedi^r^By a vigorpus^effiwrt the possibility ef suoh damage bemedoae was put an end to, and thef(fiainea quenched, after two* dr thiw a*i4»dCrlac had been burned.
