Special to "Star." BKUTBB** TBLBOBAMS. ■London, January 26. A disastrous' collision occurred in the Channel near the Needles, st the Isle of Wight, between the ships Simla and ; City of Lucknow. The former sank rapidly, and twenty-two of the passengers and crew are reported missing. Later. The collision between the City of Lucknow and the Simla occurred during a heavy gale, and about twenty miles from the Needles. It is supposed that the Simla sank. Tbe Lucknow proceeded to London. The captain ef the Simla, with his wife and child, the third officer, (three apprentices, and Short, a passenger, succeeded in boarding the Lucknow. The chief officer, four other officers, seven of the crew, and two stowaways Were also rescued by the steamer Guernsey, but the remainder of the orew of the Simla are missing. She had on board a general cargo. The death is announced of the Marquis of Hertford, aged seventy-two. The rumour that Lord Augustus Loftus was to succeed the Marquis of Normanby as Governor of Victoria is incorrect. The Times this morning published the text oi the Annexation and Feberation Bid. Caibo, January 26. Gordon Pasha has been offered and has accepted the Governorship of the Soudan, and full powers for the pacification of the country have been delegated to him by the Khedive.
