The Melbourne manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports of the local grain market as follows :— Wheat ii in moderate inquiry at 4s ; malting oarley 49 to 4s 6d ; quotations are nominal ; New Zealand oats, feeding sorts in favour of buyer, 2s lid to 3s Id ; null- | ing ditto in request at reduced prices, 3s ildto 3s 2d ; New Zealand oats, under ! bond 2a 5d to 2s 8d ; prices are barely maintained.
Recievcd January 24 l.'O a.m. MELBOtrENi. Januarj 23. Per Merchant's Shipping and Underwriters Association — London, January 22 — Arrived, the ship Warrior, from Oamaru, September 14. A case of inspected robbery and murder is reported to have occurred near Ge»iong yesterday. Francis Beech, a.farmer living at I etbavel, was found to have been murdered in his house, and his wife was in a dying state. Later. j Inquiries which hnve been made i»to the circumstances under whicli the- murder of Beach and his wife were committed near Geelong yesterday have led to the belief that the crime was committed from motives of revenge and not plunder. Black trackers have been employed to trace the criminals, but no arrests have yet been made.
