Stevens and Gorton report that at their stock sale held at Awahuri yesterday the attendance was smalt and the biding not brisk at the auction, but most of the lots were placed after the sale, at the following rates : 140 cattle were yarded. Fat cows, 60s to 80s; yearling heifers, 20s 30s; steers 80s 50s; 2-year old steers. 65s to 67s 6d; 2-year-old heifers, 50s, exceptionally good. Sheep: about 600 were yarded, and brought fat weAerSs 6d to 10s ; lambs, in wool, 3s to os 6d (a good lot of 250). There is an upward tendency in all kinds of store sheep.

Wellington. January 17. Laery and Campbell report that, notwithstanding the wretched weather, business has been pretty brisk during the past week. Since last report a larjre quantity of fruit has arrived from Melbourne, when as high as 19s per case was ebtained for plums and 15s fid for pears ; apples were of an inferior sort but realised fair prices ; at to day's sale Nelson plums brought Us 9d per half case. Fowls may be quoted at 3s to 3s 6d, and ducks Ss 6d to 4s per pair. There were no turkeys and shippers are warned against sending geese as they are quite unsaleable. Fresh butter is impossible to place satisfactorily ; eggs are sought for keenly at ls per doz, but shippers are warned that price can not be maintained ; prime salt buttc may be quoted at 6d per lb ; old cheese, 5d per lb ; new cheese, 6d ; bacon, 8d to 9d ; hams, 9d te lOd ; N Z maize, 3s 6d to 4s ; oats, 2s 2d to 2s 6d ; fowl wheat, 2s 9d to 3s 6d ; potatoes, £5 per ton ; onions, £7 ; chuff, £5 ; pollard £4 15s to £5, sacks in ; bran, £4; colonial flour, £10 lo £11 10s; Adelaide do, £14 ; oatmeal, £12 to £12 ss.
