New Zealand flux is found to be a valuable substitute for Italia:) flax in I making twine and ei.gine packing. The fibre is fine nnd strong, and is u»ed by the native New Zeaianders for dresses, mats, cord, etc As an illustration of the industrial growth of these far distant British colonies, it may be stated thai the factory ahovf referred to gives 'employment to more than 400 hands. Hiormiutn Tenax is known in this country only as an ornamental plant, cultivated for its rich and variegated leaves. — American. Agriculturist.
