Feilding Loan
Messes Shebwill and Loudon returned ] from Wellington yesterday. The result of their visit to the Commissioner of Insurance with regard to the loan was most satisfactory, aud will be laid in detail before the Borough Council at its next meeting. In this connection we may state that these gentlemen made the startling discovery of some person, believed to be a resident of Manawatu navin_ placed himself in communication with the Government in order to blacken as much as possible the commercial and general reputation of the Borough of Feilding and the settlers of the Manchester Block. We are not in possession of full particulars of the contents of the documents, but this we do know that as they are now State papers their production will be demanded in the House next session, and the " unclean bird " who dwells now amongst us, will be held up to public indignation and scorn, and be made an example of to all other "evil speakers and liars." We may also state that if Messrs Sjberwill and Loudon had not gone to Wellington, the opportunity would have been lost for re pelling and confuting the unfounded slanders, and our chances of assistance from the Government would have been nil. ______________________
