The Maori Creek Murder
ARREST OF THE. SUPPOSED MURDREE. (per united press association.) Gbkymocth, This Day. An inquest was held at DarganvtU* yesterday on the body of James Gifford. before Mr Stratford, the Coroner. John Donoghue, who has been arrested on suspicion of being the murderer, was not present at the inquest. The evidence of Dr Morice was that there were 22 sever* wounds on the body. Oa the body was found a deposit receipt «b- the Union Bank for £102 10s, and aailrer watch and gold chain. Deceased left McXedine* store about a quarter past 11 o'clock on Saturday night to go in the direction of r New Hirer Terrace. The ssspeeted murderer left about the same time to go in the same direction. Close to the tody a new billycock hat, and a sheath knifo with three brass riyetsin the handle wero picked up, the property of Donoghue. The jury returned a Terdict of iwilfil murder against some person, vnknown. At the request of Sergeant O'Gnidj n. remand was granted for eight 4*/**
