Receired January 8. 1.25 a.m. Lo>don, January 5. The cargo comprising 4,000 carcases of frozen mutton per Orient steamship Chimborazo has been examined and found in good condition. A portion of the frozen mutton ex Teviotdale has beea sold at an average of 5d per lb. January 6. The British Gorernment, in reply to a note recently received from the Egyptian Government, in which the latter asked for English assistance in Soudan, has insisted that the Egyptian troops now at Khartoum should be withdrawn to the second cataract on the Nile. January 7. It has further transpired, in connection with the reply to the Egyptian note, that the Government has stated that it is not opposed to the despatch of a Turkish expedition to Soudan, provided the* whole expense of such expedition is borne by Turkey.
