Municipal Nominations
Yestebdat the Town Clerk attended at the offices of the Borough Council to receive the nomination of a candidate or candidates for the extraordinary vacancy in the Council caused by the election of Cr Sherwill to the Mayoralty. There was no nomination. This is not as it should be. Ratepayers are expected to do something more than merely pay their rates. They have a duty to perform in taking an active part in guiding the expenditure of the Borough and the general administration of its affairs. At this season, when so much depends on the raising of the £6,000 loan, it appears singular that not a tittle of interest was displayed in the question of the selection of some one to assist in so delicate a matter. It will be necessary for the Town Clerk to agvin invite nominations, when we hope the ratepayers will make an effort and arrange among themselves to bring forward a candidate. In other communities the honor is eagerly sought for, and we see no reason why this should not be the case in Feilding.
