Mr Porter Rhodes, the fortunate owner °f the priceless diamond thnt bears his name, is at present in Paris awaiting the result or a competition between two millionaires desirous of possessing the jr'wel. The stone was | found in, his mine at Kimberlev, South Africa, in the beginning of 1880, and j tnada a great seiis'ttion amotitr the diggers when the discovery was mud« known about four mouths Inter. Mr Porer Rhodes was oblige to satisfy j their curiosity by exhibiting thi* diamond. Accordingly he placed it in a friend's office, char«rt»d a sovereign for admission, and in this wtiv received £100 withiu the first tw.» bouts. A together he made by the j exhibition £500, which he gave to j the local hospital. <>n his arrival ia England he wax honored with au invitation to Osborne, in order that tier Majesty might inspect the stone. Fie was afterwards taken tc Unborne Cottage, and had an interview with the Empress Kujrenip. Mr Porter hhodos considers that his diamond as far aurpHSges the Koh-i-noor in purity as it does in wei<rh*, the Inaian sione weighing 106^ carats, the Caj-e diamond about iliP cantts.
