fnou bra own tamm/roamm.) r Bvuls, December 28. About 18 months ago a laborer named Jamea Gannon was "blowing" a cheque and got an attack of D.T.'s. He was taken up before a J J>. and I believe ws* liberated after a few hours' detention. The same night there were heard proceeding from, the locality in which his hat was situated fearful ieries .of distress* but no heed was taken of them, and thai was the last that was ever seen, or heard of poor Jimmy -Gannon. Several paragraphi hare appeared in the papers, but no heed seems to have been of them by the authorities. I think poor Gannon's bones will be found somewhere, in the bnsb at the back of hi* hut. ... The races of. '84. under the avspices of the Rangitricei-Martori Club, are num. bered with the thingi ©f the pait. Toaa outsider they present* a sorry spectacle. On the first day in only one event did more than two horses face the starter. The big handicap brought a good field to the start, bat it was painfully evident that the horses were not racing on their merits. There must be something rotten somewhere. .The aitangemeaU' were all carried out, and but for the gale that was blowing the attendance would have been pretty fair, though it is evident that there is a steady decrease in the public patron* age, and the steward* will yet hate, to face the simple fact that two days* racea is too gnat a' tax, on the' spending powers of the people. One good 'dayV : sport would oe infinitely better than the present two days' agony. ;: ■•■ /' ' ■■■■' • A honeman re^urnjngfnkn Buns last evening went in for a 'HtUf amateur jockeying. Seeing a cow lying down chewing h«r oud ja the road* the brilliant idea struck hu|i thai he wosJd clear the obitacle in one grand jump, b»t the horse must have bera short sighted,. f«r instead ef clearing the eow theyaU sjot jpixed us. and eventually the Bone went one wmy, the eow the other, and the amateur jockey had a pleasant walk of 10 miles to Bulb, where he arrired at midnight.
