That Splendid and Powerful Clydesdale Horse, GENERAL HAVELOCK. /T1 ENERAL HAVELOCK is a dark \Jf brown horse, rising five years old, and stands 17 hands high, with immense muscular power, splendid action, and a good temper, and is pronounced by competent judges to be the best draught horse ever bred in theprovinceof Marl oorough. General Havelock is out of the Clydesdale mare Maggie by Taieri. Taieri was bred by Donald Grant, Esq., Kirklands, West T>iieri, and is out of the Clydesdale mare Gentle by Comet. General Havelock's clam w;is shown in 1878 at the Marlborough Agricultural Society's Show and took first prize against all comers. General Havelock will be at the undermentioned places: — Awahuri and Feilding on .Mondays, Sandon on Tuesdays, Oanipbelllown and Foxton on Thursdaj's, and at Taonui street, Palmerston North on aturdays. Papapa is a dark chestnut, standing 15 bunds 3 inches high, with threat length, substance, and quality, and was one of the fastest horses that ever raced in New Zealand. At the Christchurch meeting in 1873 he ran second tc the celebrated Lurline in the Canterbury Cup, 2£ miles, in <tm. Bs., carrying 7st. 21bs., as a three-year-old. Lurline, 4yrs., Bst. Vdbs.; Tambourini, 9st. 6lbs. ; Malvina, Bst. 9lbs. ; and Templeton, 7st. 21bs., also ran. Papapa won the Christchurch Derby in 2m. 44£s. beating Castaway (own brother to Lurline), Templeton, and Traitor. At Auckland won the Auckland Turf Club Cup, with 7st. Blbs., 2 miles, in 3m. 455.. Yatterina, 7st. 121b5., second. Parawanui, Hatred, and ' i lack Eagle also ran. Papapa also walked over for the Railway Stakes," and won the Thames Plate, 7st. bibs., 2 miles, in 3m. 555., beating Hatred, 9st. 71bsl Teems. — Single mare, £5 55. ; two or more, as per agreement. StudßookX Diomedes won the Wanganui Welter Weight-for-age Hurdle Race, beating Reform, New Qear, Dhudcen, and several other celebrated horses. He also won the Turakina Handicap Hurdle Race, beating a large field. He also ran a good third for the Wanganui Grand National Steeplechase,- carrying 12st. 7lbs., giving the winner,. Ruahine, Ist.' slbs., and the second horse, Dhudeen, 2nt. slhs , thereby showing that he is a weight, carrier, and has exceptionally good st -y---ing power. Diomedes was also awarded first prize at the Wanganui A. and P. Association as a sire best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horses.
