Orona County Council
A special meeting of the Council was held at its office, feilding, on Monday last at ttooa, for the purpose of considering the matters of dog tax, allocation of Government grants, slaughter - house licenses, and, payment of accounts. Pre-aent^-Crs Macarthur (chairman), Sly, Skernaaa, Walker, Douglas, Engels and Mcßeth. Accounts amounting to £460 lOs were ' received and passed for payment. These were chiefly foe work done . uader the Roads and Bridges Construction Act. Crs Mcßeth and Walker were ap- " pointed to sign cheqaes for amounts paused for payment. X The matter of the dog tax wa« then discussed at considerable length. Several propositions were made by different tJouncUlors, and a satisfactory settlement of the question was felt to be exceedingly •'" difficult! : Cr Engels proposed, That no dog tax at all be collected, . but this found no seconder, v ' ■ " •-_■.' It was then moved by Cr Macarthur. seconded by Cr Sly, That the dog tar for 1884 in the County of Oroua be a unifotm rate of 10s per dog; that Mr Bray '" 'Ye appointed registrar for Waituna, '"' Ashurst, and Kiwitea Ridings, and Mr Armstrong for Taonui and Fitzherbert ; that they be paid 10s per dog for all un. <■ registered dogs destroyed (the number to be sworn to by affidavit) and 10s per dog fer all dogrregistered' belonging to non- :" ratepayers,; '.tbat they be paid 2s per dog ''■ for all dogs registered belonging io ratepayers, and, that any . penalty recovered Joe paid fo the registrars, less aay costs ' 'incurred by the County.— Carried.
