The Marton Minstrels

Our space on Thursday forbade our publishing more than a fcae-al notice of the excellent entertainment given in the Jbwn Hall on Boxing Night by the , '. Jlartqn Thespian Minstrels. A somewhat lengthy programme was gone through to the great satisfaction and pleasure of a very fcood audience, and we are] bound, to say tbe Mintreis were quite true to their advertised promise to give the Feilding folk " a night of fun, music, J mirtli, and melody." The first part was opened by an "orchestral warble" by the ■ company, which at once proved their, ability to.plea-e. "Thou art ever mmy | breams" was prettily sung by Mr Powell. "iit.l* .sister's gone to sleep" by Mr Jebett, with chorus by the company was i sang splendidly. " Sweet Genevieve" by ■ __tr HoUt was nicely. rendered. "On the bright shores of gold" by Mr Enrick and the company was well given, as was also « Close the shutters, Willies dead," the solo of tbis being taken by Mr Ambrose. Mrs Jonthon opened the second part by an overture, which was played in very good style. A cornet duett by Messrs Harry and Enrick was very creditable indeed. Mr Jouthoa's burlesque oration, accompanied as it was by such comical action aad antics, was laughable in the extreme. A sentimental song by Mr Powell, and a comic duett by Messrs Harry and Pogson, met with most deserved •ncores, and a seatimeatal duett by Mr Hollj and M -« Vernon was very . weetly sang, tbe get up and capital falsetto voice of the latter being so thoroughly good, that many would hardly credit afterwards that they had been listening to a young gentleman instead of a lady- Some comic songs of which the names were not all given, by Messrs Holly, Wiukley, Johnthon, and Reed, were all very amusing and well sung. Mr Buckley was to have given a sand jig, but not being able to appear his place was taken by one whose splendid step dancing met with a very <-rarm-_.core.aad whose ng up so deceived theaudienee that few recognised their fellow townsman, Mr J. Turner. The performance concluded with a laughable nigger sketch, entitled v Quarrelsome Servants," in which Messrs Jonthon, Holly aad Pogson, all did their parts exceedingly well. After the performance a dance was held, about 30 t*> 40 couoles being present. The music was rendered by members of tbe Minstrel company, Mr Turner acting as M .C. The dancing was kept up till about 3 a.m.
