'■•■ ■■ — : — ♦ ' "'/ ,-;■; ''■ ■■ The annual fete of the Sunday. School children of St. John's Church was celebrated in the Public Hal) yestefday afternoon, as the wet- weather made it utterly ifirpossible to have it on the Sports Oval as originally intended.; The ladies who assisted .were Mesdames Jones, Stienveldt. and Foster, and M dies M. Halcombe, Goodbehere. E. Goodbehere, Nicholas, and K. Rutherford. TKe ßer. Mr Jones, and Mr _BL Worsfold, the Sunday School Superintendent, were also present, and lent valuable; aid. In all, 1 ninety-seven children attended for tea. After partaking plentifully of the good ' things which were supplied in' the most ' liberal quantities, the youngsters ' proceeded to " fames," which they followed for three bonis -and a half without break or interruption, and when -the time for dismissal arrived thej showed no signs of fatigue, or abatement of energy. We desire to congratulate the ladies, and all others who kindly assisted, on the satis- £ etory enjoyment derived by theyoangsters. The appearance of tbe hat), when the whole number collected were engaged in a pastime, which we are given to' understand is called Kiss in the .Ring, and which appeared to give infinite joyto the children participating, -while the other little ones were dodging abont either as circus performers Or athletes, the effect of the bright dresses was quite.'kileidoscopic, and multiplied to the eye the performers, making a confusing though very pleasing picture. Tbe fete was closed by a general scramble for nutf and other good things. So ended a very pleasant afternoon. -y . y; Rrr- Xi ■;,
