THE FUNERAL
To-day a large number of residents proceeded to Waterton in order to attend the funeral of the late Mr A. Dawson. The various Masonic Lodges in Ashbur- ■ ton also met at the Somerset Hall, and after the Lodge had been 'opeued, the •' Brethren to the number of about 60 were also driven to the Waterton V'emeierjfc where the funeral* ceremony tiok place. The Rev. E. A. Scott, tbe Incumbent of Ashburton, read the beautiful service of 'the Church of England, and the Masonic ntptal was read by the W.M. of the Somerset Lodge. The Masonic Brethren, according to an' ancient custom, dropped . apiece of acacia over the^coffin after the service, before leaving ' il&-'Mm*tery. A, large number of the 'neighboritg settlers' attended the funeral-*; and • much sympathy was expressed with the bereaved, relations 'in* the' sudden ' loss, of so promising a young main A telegram from Feilding to-day informs us that a speoial service was held there last 'evening in the Church of England,, in respect to the memory of the Tate Mr Alfred Dawson. ■ ' **..* : : • ■
