Concert at Taonui
♦ — In spite of the very boisterous weather yesterday evening, the concert at Taonui was a great success. The programme included two quartettes, two duetts, and a number of songs, recitations and readings, together with two violin solos, and some selections by the Feilding Town Band: Among the singers Mrs Bedman was especially successful in her rendering of the ballad " Golden Love," as also was Mr Hudson with "The Arabs Farewell" and the "Friar of Orders Grey." Mr Wright and Mr Seaton contributed some very amusing readings, and the Misses Prendergast recited a fecene from the " School for Scandal " with great taste and precision. What we consider to have been the mainstay of the entertainment was the excellent rendering of several character songs, by Mr Coles. That gentleman's " make up " and bye-play are far beyond the average. Mrs Dowling and Mr Seaton acted as accompainsts. We had forgotten to mention that the quartette party consisted of Mesdames Dowling and Bedman, and Messrs Dowling and Thomson. Mr Jenkins contributed two violin solos, in which he showed that he was no mean performer on the instrument. During the interval «ome very nice selections were played l>y Mr Daw's band, to whom every credit is due for the rapid progress they have made since they first came before the public. We are pleased to state that the amount realised was l>etween £3 or £4.
