Kali, which wag crowded, a public meeting of the unemployed, was held, presided over by the Mayor, and addressed by Messrs Mont* gomery, Holmes, Wynu Williams, Weston, and several working men. 200 unemployed were present, fit was stated that the number of unemployed in ( ftrisU church and suburbs was about 500 or 700. The following resolution was carried: — That we, v the working* men of Canterbury, consider it is thebounden duty of Government to stop free and assisted immigration, also to ttke the money roted for immigration, and im:nedia^y make w«rk J for the masses.
