The Late Mr Dawson
According to announcement the places of business, including the sliops, hotels, &c, of Feilclins were closed for two hours yesterday afternoon ;is a mark of public respect for the late Mr Dawson, whose funeral was to take place »t Waterton, Ash burton during the same time. The town has scarcely ever assumed a more quiet appearance, and from three o'clock till four it was more like Sunday than any day uf thf week. A special funeral service was conducted by the Rev Joshua Jones in St. John's Church, of which deceased was a churchwarden. Although but little notice of this had b en given, there was a good attendance, and all sects, classes, and professions were represented. Most persons wore mourning, and the service was of a solemn nature. It was with some difficulty that the minister suppressed at times that emotion which was also felt and evinced by the congregation generally. At the conclu* sion Mr Jo»es delivered a very appropriate address, which was listened to most attentively. The service was choral, the choir being accompanied on the organ by Miss E. Goodbehere.
