The Banger

It was not without occasion tijat'the matter of the large number/ of stray animals which have roamed bur streetß of late, and the duties of the Borough Banger with reference to the same was. brought before the Council oh Friday night last. As it was remarked, the complaints on this head had been' numerous, and it certainly has been, evident for ' some time that the appointment of a Banger has Been little more than a sinecure. ' We hope the resolution passed by the Council, and contained in our report last i&sue, will have the effect of greatly diminishing the nuisance which has been so much and so justly complained of. The monthly report of the Borough poundkeeper tells tales, and fully confirms all that the Council, or the public, or ourselves have, said upon the matter, as 16 animals impounded during the past month bear no comparison to the number that have been at large on our streets during thai time. Still we are by no means inclined to throw all blame- upon. the Banger himself, for .while his.,dstie& <A are clear, those of the owners of cattle within the Borough are? not less so* They have no right to wilfully turn their stock adrift, and no person who does so is entitled to be called a good citizen. Banger or no Banger those who thus openly violate, the laws of our local government should be made to bear, the penalty of so doing*
