"Authentic Information"
For a document giving the latest and " most correct" information relative to Feilding, we commend our ! readers to a certain "Australasian I aud American Directory" for 1888, . published in New York. We give a | few samples of its " accurateness" in the order in which they stand in this wonderful document. Feilding is said to be in Manawater. The auctioneers are "Harcomb, Maysmore, and O'Sulivan." Among the builders are*"Hafrvey, Johnson, Smithson, and. Wells.** . "Plummer A." is among the butchers. The carpenters include " Aitken J, and Jones J." " Booth Hectpr" is among the carriers, while none of the • proper carriers names appear. The. cream of the " information" to the "dealers in china, ' glass,- &o.' v *. These are "Drummond T. M;, Earl L P. X., Harding A., Jackson H. J., Mountford C, Owen F./Todd A., and Wright E. H." One of the drapers is described as " Cottered," while ' another one would do well to try and rise in the world, as he is said to be "Lowdown." The only grocer is " Arnold. William." The Feilding Hotel is still kept by "Brown T. V.," -while theproprietor of another hotel might be imagined to have a good deal of ."blow'*: about him, as he is named " Belloes." The only sawmillers are "Nicholls J., and Tarrant J.," "while the only'solitary printer the place possesses, according to this " directory," must be a man of rather dark complexion, aa he is described as " Copper George." -< ■
