ITALY AND CHINA. Received Dec. 11, £1.5 a.m. Caibo, Dec. 9. Further intelligence to hand from Souakin shows that the recent destruction of Egyptian troops by the Arabs is a more serious disaster than was jat first anticipated. It now appears that seven ■ hundred Egyptian troops were killed and that these comprised the elite of the force sent to occupy Souakin and to . operate against the Soudan rebels. Great i dismay prevails here at the continuous l successes with which the partisans of El , Mahdi meet in their conflicts with the ' troops despatched against them, i Madrid, December 9. i The principal object of the German » Crown Prince in returning to Berlin via ■ Rome is to pay a visit to King Humbert, - and not as previously stated to the Pope. ' Prince Frederick William will, however, ' visit the Pontiff before leaving Rome for i the north. [ Rome, December 9. i The Italian Government has decided to [ co-operate with the other powers in adopting measures for the protection of .
