Feilding Borough Council.
— — •— — ' An ordinary meeting of. the Council was held in the Council Chamber last evening. Present— Crs Sherwill (Mayor eleetj, Rutherford, Fowles, Worsf old and Thompson. In the absence of the Mayor, through illness, the Mayor elect presided. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The monthly report of the Finance Committee was read and adopted, including the passing of account* to the amount «l£U2l7V4d. The chairman begged that the presentation of the report of the committee re the Cemetery matter be allowed to be deferred till next meeting. The monthly 'report, of tJie Borough Poundleeper was* read and adopted. Tbe report showed that the number of impounded had been 16 head, the total amount received £1 7s, and the amount to be handed to the Council, 16s. Cr Woritfold called attention io the large number of cattle continually straying on the roads, and thought the Ranger should be spoken to with a view of getting hi <a to attend, to Hs duties a litte more diligently. Several councillors spoke to the tame effect.Cr Rutherford thought the bye-law, No. 31, ought to be more rigidly enforced. Crs Fowles and Thompson expressed their opinion that the Bangers instructions as to his duties had beea too lax, and ought to be more clearly defined. After further discussion it was resolved. That the attention of the Banger be called to the number of cattle wandering «t larger and to bye-law No. 31. The following correspondence was then read: — Mr J. B. Hammond offering to cut tbe lush past his section, being a continuation of Hbrt street, at £1 10s per acre. Mr Poster, secretary of the Forester's Lodge, asking permission to lay a culvert in water table approaching new Forester's Hall ia Bowen 6treet. Resolved, That permission be given to the Foresters to make the approach asked for, subject to the approval of the Engineer. Resolved, That the request of Mr Hammond re clearing in Port street be granted. The following tenders for metalling .North street were then opened and read : Fearon and Norman, £259 ; Younger *nd Laiag, £3 8« 9A per chain.; Belfit •and Jackman. £272 12s ; B. Bowler, £312 10s ;~ T. Smith, £278. The tender of Messrs Fearon and Norman was accepted. Cr Rutherford moved, That plans and specifications be prepared for the formation of a portion of West street, according to schedule of works. He made a few remarks in support o) the motion, which, was seconded by Cr Fowles, and carried. The Council then adjourned till noon on Wednesday, the 19th instant, for the installation 'of the new Mayor and other .business. :^^^^^^^^_
