General Havelock is out of the Clydesdale mare Maggie by Taieri. Taieri was brco" l>y Donald Grant, E<-q., Kirklands, West Taieri, and is out of the Clydesdale mare Gentle by Comet. General Have. lock's dam was shown in 1878 at the Marlborough Agricultural Society's Show and took first prize against all comers. General Havelock will be at the undermentioned places: — Awahuri and Feilding on Mondays, Sandon on Tuesdays, Campbelltown and Foxton on Thursdays, and at Taonui street, Palmerston North on -aturdays. At the Christchurch meeting in 1873 he ran second tc the celebrated Lurline in the Canterbury Cup, 2} miles, in <tm. Bs., carrying 7st. 2lbs., as a three-year-old. Lurline, 4yrs., Bst. Wbs.; Tambourini, 9st. 6lbs. ; Malvina, Bst. Olbs. ; and Templeton, 7st. 21 bs., also rah. Papapa won the Christchurch I'erby in 2m. 44is. beating Casiaway (own brother to Lurline), Templeton, and iraitor. At Auckland won the Auckland Turf Club Cup, with 7st. 81 bs., 2 miles, in3m. 455. • Yatterina, 7st. ; 121b5., second. Parawanui, Hatred, and iilack Eagle also ran. He also won the Turakina Handicap Hurdle Race, beating a -large field. : He also > ran a good third for the Wanganui Grand National, Steeplechase, carrying 12st. 71bs., giving the , winner, Ruahine, Ist. 51 bs., and the second horse, Dhudeen, 2st; slbs. , thereby shoeing that he is a weightcarrier, and has exceptionally good st ying power. : ,. ,j y .
