Manchester Road Board
0 A o dinary meetina of this Board was held this afternoon. Present Messrs Macarthur (chairman), Linton, Jonea and Lethbridge, the latter being the newly elected member for No. 1 Ward. Tbe minutes of the previous meeting were lead and confirmed. The following correspondence was also read : — Public Works Office re certificates of road works ; General. Survey Office re road line through Native Reserve; Public Works Office re voting papers ; W. Sexton asking for longer time on contract ; Hankins and Baker, solicitors, re defence of action ; C. Fitzherbert re payment of rates ; petition from ratepayers of Nos. 2 and 3 Wards re a direct road Halcombe to the Onepuhui bridge. A report from the Board's Engineer was read and adopted. The matter of the petition from the ratepapers of Nos 2 and 3 wards was left in the hands, of the Chairman for him to communicate with f he parties concerned. It was resolved to urge Mr * exton to push, on with his contract, the matter of fines to be left in abeyance. A ballot was taken for three members to retire from the Board, in accordance with the provisions of the Act, preparatory to the next election. The result was the retirement of the members for Nos 1, 2, and 5 wards, viz., Messrs Lethbridge, Jones, and Bailey. The subject of the proposed road through the Native Reserve was discussed, but no resolution was passed. Mr Bray was authorised to get the culvert done on Jones' road, according to his specifications A number of accounts were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
