GENERAL HAVELOCK. f\ ENERAL HAVELOCK is a dark |\ Jl brown horse, rising five years old, and stands 17 hands high, 'with immense muscular power, splendid action, and a good temper, and is pronounced by com- ' petent judges to be the best draught horse, ever bred in the province of Marlborough. General Havelock is out of the Clydesdale mare Maggie hy Taieri. Taieri was bred by Donald Grant, Esq., Kirklands, West Taieri, and is out of tiie Clydesdale mare Gentle by Comet. General Havelock's i!;im was shown in 1878 at the Marlborough Agricultuial Society's Show and took first prize against all comers. General Havelock' will bo at the undermentioned places: — A wnburi and Feilding - on Mondays, Sandon on Tuesdays, Oampbelltown and Foxton on Thursdays, and at Taonui street, Palmerston North; on aiurdays. Papapa is a dark chestnut, standing 15 hands 3 inches high, with ereat length, substance, and quality, and was one of. the fastest horses that ever raced in New Zealand. At the Christchurch' meeting in 1873 he ran second tc the celebrated Lurline in the Canterbury Cup, 2\ miles, in 4m. Bs., carrying 7st. 21bs., as a three-year-old. Lurline, 4yrs., Bst. Wbs.; Tambourini, 9st. Gibs.-, Malvina, Bst. 9lbs. ; and Templeton, 7st. 21 bs., also ran. Papapa won the Christchurch Derby in 2m. 44-is. beating Castaway (own brother to Lurline), Templeton, and 1 raitor. At Auckland won' the Auckland Turf Club Cup, with 7st". 81 bs., 2 miles, in 3m. 455. Yatterina, 7st. 121b5., second. Parawanui, Hatred, and Mack Eagle also ran. Papapa also walked over for the Railway Stakes, and won the Thames Plate, 7st. 51b5.,2 miles, in 3m. 555., beating Hatred, 9st. 71bs. Tekms. — Single mare, £5 55. ; two or more, as per agreement.
