Th» Bey Father le Menant des Chesliais preached to very large congregations of all denominations, both morning and evening, last Sunday, at the Roman (Catholic Chappel, his discourses being on "Christian Charity." He warned his hearers against " bigotry," or one church letting itself against another. They were all working in their "Father's Vineyard," and without chanty none could hope to reach the realms of bliss. Both discourses were masterpieces of eloquence, and will not he soon forgotten. The continuous warm rains are bringing the rosea to perfection, and if we can escape any strong winds the next show C promises to be a grand success. The bait given by the ladies of the Lower Rangitikei in the Town Hall on Friday last was a great success. It was estimated that fully eighty couples were present, and the capacity of the Hall was taxed to it* fullest extent. All the arrangements were earned out in a satisfactory manner. Herr Nor berg's band supplied the music, nnd was all that could be wished for. The only drawback was the. fearfully sultry weather, and it is to be regretted that the promoters did not make more satisfactory arrangements with the clerk of the weather, to have the v hot" water tap turned on was, I beg leave to think, a grave error of judgment.
