Papapa is a dark chestnut, standing 15 hands 3 inches high, with great length, substance, and quality, and was one of the fastest horses that ever raced in New Zealand. At the Christchurch meeting in 1873 he ran second tc tbe celebrated Lurline in tbe Canterbury Cup, 2£ miles, in <tm. Bs., carrying 7st. 2lbs., as a three-year-old, Lurline, 4yrs., Bst. idbs. ; Tambourini, 9st. Gibs. ; Malvina, Bst. 9lbs. ; and Templeton, 7st. 2lbs., also rau. Papapa won the Christchurch Derby in 2m. 4445. beating Castaway (own brother to Lurline), Templeton, and Traitor. At Auckland won the Auckland Turf Club Cup, with 7st. 81 bs., 2 miles, in 3m. 455. Yatterina, 7st. 121b5., second. Parawanui, Hatred, and Hlnck Eagle also ran. Papapa also walked over for the Railway Stakes, and won the Thames Plate. 7st. slbs., 2 miles, in 3m. 555., beating Hatred, 9st. 71bs. Terms.— Single mare, £5 os. ; two or more, as per agreement. Diomedes won the Wanganui Welter Woight-for-age Hurdle Race, beating Reform, New Qear, Dhudeen, and several other celebrated horses. He also won the- Turakina Handicap Hurdle Kace. beating a large field. He also ran a good third fur the Wnmjanui Grand National Steeplechase, carrying l'isi. 71bs., giving the winner, Ruahine, Ist. olbs., and the second horse, Dhudeen, 2st. olbs. , thereby showing that he is a weightcarrier, and has exceptionally good st yiusr power. Diomedes was also awarded first prize at the Wanganui A. and P. Association Show a.s a sire best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horses. Tekms: Single mares, £4; two or more the bona fide property of one owner, £'6 10s each. On Monday to Sandon and Oroua Downes, Tuesday at Awahuri and Palmerston, Friday at Turakina. and the remainder of the week at Bulls. Paddocking provided at Bulls, at 2s per week.
