Larrikinism

1 Wb had imagined that our continued j writing on this subject, supported by the I strenuous, efforts of our local guardian of the peace* had effieotually stamped out

the evil of larrikiaisin in the Borough. We were mistaken, however, for we found it as rampant on Sunday last as we have yet seen it. In our correspondence column we publish a letter, over the signature of a " Resident," in wbich complaint is made of gun shots being fired on -unday within the limits of the Borough, contrary to the the express conditions of Bye-law No. 20. It is probable the person who was guilty of this peace of folly, erred more from want of thought, than from any deliberate iutention to be a source of annoyance to his neighbours, and whoever he is, may regret to learn that a sick person living near, was so seriously alarmed by the firing, that progress of recovery to health has been seriously retarded. In the evening, after divine service, about forty youths of all ages from six to sixteen, were congregated on the crossing at Manchester and Gray streets, making nigbt hidious by their cries, and terrifying young women and children who were returning from the various places of worship. Ib is an unpleasant thing to do perhaps, but parents must impress on their children the propriety of behaving with deceucey and decorum on Sundays, or the strong hand of the law will be heavily laid on them, and bitter regret will be felt when it is too late. Constable Peice has stated his intention to proceed against all offenders, without fear or favor, so this warning should be taken.
