Makino Butter Factory

■*+- The meeting of farmers and settlers held at Makino last night for the purpose of considering the desirableness of starting a Butter Factory in that favored locality, was eminently successful, and for full particulars of the business done we refer our readers to our report published in another part of the paper. We must commend the worthy spirit in which Ihe movement has been commenced, and have every confidence in the desire and ability of the promoters to work to the end in a practical manner. From the tone adopied by the various speakers at the meeting, it is evident that self-reliance is to be * ruling feature in the matter. When this principle is fully acted up to, success is certain. We may remind our readers that when Mr Bowron visited Feilding he'wastakentorxaminetheMalunodistrict in order that he mi»bt form some opinion as to the capabilities of that district for a Cheese and Butter Fact jry. The views he expressed were highly complimentary to that part of the settlement, as he said is no part of the colony had he seen land and locality so admirably adapted for dairy farming. There is a most prolific soil, well watered, and plenty of good shelter ; in fact, everything that is needed for snch a purpose, and of the best of its kind or description, and, most important of all, hard-working intelligent settlers.
