Arrival of the lonic
! (PEB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, November 8. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer lonic, Ciptain Henry ParselJ, arrived from London at 2 30 o'clock this '< afternoon. She left London on the 21st, [ September, Plymouth on 22nd, Madeira I 27th, and St. Vincent on October Ist, arriving at the Cape on October 16 f h. j The lonic brings 78 first class passengers, 96 second, 261 third, also 228 Government I immigrants. On the 15th October a ! death from consumption occured, and I deceased was burried at the Cape. One birth occured during the voyage. The health of the passengers has been remarkably good. On the 6th instant, when the vessel was near the coast, one of the seamen named Kappell aged 50 jumped overboard and was drowned. It appears he was seen to jump over the side by two young girls (immigrants), who thought he was simply going for a swim, and they did not report the circumstances for fully seven minutes later, when a boat w r as at once lowered and search made for Kappell, but without avail. _______________«
