The School Cadetship
' , TO THK KDITOK OF THE STAB".' Sir, — The 'announcement that Miss Pope has been appointed . Cadet for the Feilding Public School hi»s taken many by surprise, and I thinks calls for a little 1 explanation. The facts of the case' are ■as follows : — The Committee some time ago requested the master to nominate a. Cadet. Ho, who onghfc to be bpsfc qualified to jud^e, nominated Miss Diamond. The Committee accordingly, after gotting - consent of this pupil and her parents, recoiniaended her appointment to the Board. To my ltnowledgp, Lopes were held out to her of the almost certainty of being appointed, and at last, without nomination, recommendation, o* anything else that anybody has erer' heard a word about it transpires that another is appointed. .Now fam not saying a word against Miss Pope's effeeiency. On the contrary sho is well known as one of the best be* hayed and qualified girls in the school, and is no doubt' as gooji in every respect as Miss Diamond. I am only askiag that as much disappointment has been felt by those more immediately concerned, and 'the whole affair appears somewhat: mysterious, an explanation of it should be giTen by someone. I only hope- it it capable of being explained to the satisfaction'; o£ myself and others.— l am, Ac , Air Enquibsb.
