G1 ENERAL HAVELOCK is a dark IT brown horse, rising five years old, and stands 17 hands high, with immense muscular power, splendid action, acd a good temper, and ia pronounced by competent judges to be the best draught horse ever bred in the province of Marlborough. General Havelock is out of the Cl} r desdale mare Maggie by Taieri. Taieri was bred by Donald Grant, E«q., Kirklands, West Taieri, and is out of the Clydesdale mare Gentle by Comet. General Havelock's dam was shown in 1878 at the Marlbonmgh Agricultural Society's Show and took first prize against all corners. General Havelock will be at tho undermeutioned places: — Awahuri and Feilding on Mondays, Sandon on Tuesdays, Campbelltowa c_d Foxton on Thursdays, and at Taonui street, Palmerston North on Saturdays. Papapa is a dark chestnut, .stand iug 15 bunds 3 inches high, with great length, subsiance, and quality, nnd was one of the fastest horses that ever raced in New Zealand. At the Christchurch meeting in 1873 lie ran second tc the celebrated Lurline in the Canterbury Cup, 2} miles, in 4m. Bs., carrying 7«t. 21bs., as a three-year-old. Lurline, 4yrs., Bs t. Wbs.; Tambourini, 9st. 61 bs. ; Malvina, Bst. 9lbs. ; and Templeton, 7st. 21bs., also ran. Papapa xvon the Christchurch I'erby in 2m. 44.j5. beating Castaway (own brother to Lurline), Templeton, and Traitor. At Auckland won the Auckland Turf Club Cup, with Ist. 81 bs., 2 miles, in 3m. 455. Yatterina, 7st. 121b5., second. Parawanui, Hatred, and Black Eagle also ran. Papapa also walked over for the Railway Stakes, and won the Thames Plate, 7st. 51b3., 2 miles, in 3m. 555., beating Hatred, 9st. 71bs. Tebms. — Single mare, £5 6s. ■ two or more, as per agreement. Diomedes won the Wanganui Welter Weight-for-age Hurdle Race, beating Reform, New Qear, Dhudeen, and several other celebrated horses. He also won the Turakina Handicap Hurdle Race, beating a large field. Ke also ran a good third for the Wangaaui Grand National Steeplechase, carrying 12st. 71bs., giving the winner, Ruahine, Ist. slbs., and the second horse, Dhudeen, 2st. slbs. .thereby showing that be is a weightcarrier, and has exceptionally good st ying power. Diomedes was also awarded first prize at the Wanganui A. and P. Association Show as a sire best calculated to improve tbe breed of saddle horses. Teems : Single mares, £4 ; two or more the bona fide property of one owner, £3 10s each. On Monday to Saadon and Oroua Dowries, Tuesday at Awahnri and Palmerston, Friday al Turakina. and the remainder of tbe week at Bulls. Paidocking provided at Bulls, at 2s per week.
