Shocking Patality at Napier.
On Saturday last at Napier three persons lost their lives by the upsetting of a boat in the inner harbor of ihat port. It appears that six young men named James Stewart, Alexander Stewart, Arthur Dixon, Walter Meek, William Delabaye, and George Rearden borrowed a sailing boat, and when about a quarter of a mile from the shore, a squall capsiztd the boat. James Slewart and Dixon 6wam ashore for assistance. Five boats formed a search party, and after five hours bad elapsed, the boat was found bottom up, with three occupants only. Of these Meek and Delahaye were dead from exhaustion. Stewart was unconscious and Rearden was not to be seen. Stewart, on recovering, stated that Meek, who was a stronf swimmer, offered to assist Rearden, who could not swim, and the latter stripped. Just at -that time a sea -washed them all off the boat. Three regained their positions, but Rearden was never afterwards seen. Delahaye died in about _4i hour, and Meek expired soon after. Both Meek and Delahaye were Wellington boys. Meek was in Feilding about a fortnight ago, and he has left many .rieads here who will sincerely lament the untimely death of a most estimable young man.
