Salvationists in Trouble.
«. (PEB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Invbkcabgill, October 18. The following letter appeared in tbe Southland News last night : — I recently attended the Salvation meeting, and was astonished at the language made use of in a place consecrated to the worship of God. It is nothing more or less than inviting assault to use expressions of this kind — ' Go home and buy a paper collar and put another shirt on and give them poor little oreatures a rest, their feet will get sore running on your flesh." Tonight a large crowd assembled at the Salvation Theatre. When Caption Burfoot or his wife essayed to speak, their voices were drowned in rounds of howling and Kentish fire. The malcontents gathered outside, and at the conclusion of the service assailed Captain Burfoot and his wife with yelling, hooting, and menaces. Mrs Burfoot was overcome with terror and fainted. The party took refuge in a fruit saop, and after Mrs Burfoot came round, proceeded home, escorted by the rowdy escort, who finished by throwing stones on the roof of the house. The young man assailed by Capt Burfoot, referred to ia the letter, it is said, will proceed for libel.
