Sports Meeting.
On Saturday night last, in response to a summons from the Secretary of the Feuding Sports Committee, a large attendance of residents assembled at the Public Hall. The Mayor, P. Y. Lethbridge, Esq., was voted to the chair. He stated the objects of the meeting, and I called upon the Secretary to read (he minutes of the lust annual general meeting and the special meeting held last year. This was done, and the minutes were confirmed. The balance sheet was read and adopted. It showed a balance in favor of the society of £8 Is 9d. The chairman infor i>ed the meeting that out of the proceeds of the last sports meeting a subsidy of £'15 had been h.inded to the 1 Foilding Brass Band, whose services would be available on Boxing Day gratuitously. Mr Macurthur. in moving the adoption of the report, said that he hoped the^» coming spcrts would be as successful as the past year. Dr Johnston poposed, and Mr FitzHerbert seconded a resolution that the sports be held on Boxing Day. Carried. The meeting then proceeded to the election of offictrs. "Working C ommittee, Messrs Johnston, Macartbur, Sherwill, Ruth erf or>l, and Bray. Secretary — Mr Goodbohere. Treasurer — Mr Dawson. Stewards — Messrs Earton, Bailey, Lethbridge, Haybittle, Eade, Booth, Bartholomew, Jackson, Foster, FitzHerbert, Fearon. W. Bailey, Downes, E. H. Wright, Sandilands, with power to add to their number. Mr FitzHerbert proposed, and Mr Eirton seconded, a hearty jote of thanks to Messrs Goodbehere and Dawson for their services as Secretary and Treasurer respectively daring the past year. This resolution was carried with acclamationA contribution list was then opened in the room, and £40 was subscribed. Before the o; ening of the business of the meeting, and at its conclusion, the Feilding Band, of which there were 15 members present, under the leadership of Mr Sam Daw, played some excellent selections, which were well appreciated, and the band is to be congratulated on its progress. It was mentioned that the usual Hack Steeplechase would be a part of the programme of the sports, and that the day amusements would probably be closed by a ball in the Town Hall. A vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the meeting, which was tho best and most business-like we Have seen in Feilding. mKmmm __ mmm^ mm
