Feilding Borough Council.

♦- An ordinary meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber on Thursday evening last. Present— the Mayor and Crs SUerwill, Fowles, Higgin, Loudon, Richardson, and Worsfold. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Postmaster with reference to the proposed site for a postal pillar box asking (for the information of the < hief Postmaster), if the Council would object to an aperture being made in the Council Chambers for a bor for tlie reeeptioti of letters. A letter was read from the secretary of the Foresters' lodge, calling attentioa to the loss in front of the site of tlie new Foresters' Hall, and requesting their removal. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Sh-vrwill seconded by Cr Richardson, That the Council accede to the request of the Chief Postmaster with reference to a letter box at the Council Chambers, but would suggest that the convenience of the public would be better served by the erection of a pillar box at the corner of Manchester and Grey streets. On the motion of Cr Higgin, seconded by Cr Fowles, it was resolved, Tiiat the Chairman of the Public Works Committee be requested to give instructions for the removal of the logs in Bowen street. The following applications for the appointment of Inspector of Nuisances for the Borough were then received and read: — F. R. Rowley, E. Worsfold, R. Laukshear, J. R. Blackmore, G. T. H. Lyne, E. H. Wright. As Mr Wright's application stipulated for a larger salary than authorised, it was struck out as informal. « Cr Skerwili proposed, and Cr Fowles seconded, That the application of Mr Rowley for the appointment of Inspector of Nuisances for the Borough of Feilding be accepted. ■ Cc Richardson proposed, as an ampndment, and Cr Worsfold seconded, -That the application of J. H. Black more for the appointment of Inspector of Nuisanceß be accepted. — Carried. The amendment then became a substantive proposition. Lt Higgin then moved and Cr Worsfold seconded, That G. T. H. Lyae be appointed Inspector of Nuisances. — .Negatived. Cr Sherwill moved, and Cr Worsfold seconded, That the application of R. Xiankshear for the post of Inspector of be accepted — Negatived. Cr Worsfold then proposed, and Cr Higgin seconded, That the application of 33. Worsfold as Inspector of > uisances be accepted. — This was also negatived. The substantive proposition was then put and carried. The following tenders for the formation of North street were opened:— J. Aitken, £161 6s ; Belfitand Hubner, £178; A. Diamond, £149 7s. A deposit of £6 was enclosed with each tender. Cr Loudoa proposed, and Cr Sherwill seconded, That the tender of A. Diamond be accepted. — Carried. Resolved, on the motion of Cr Loudon, seconded by Cr Fowles, That the Mayor and Cr Sherwill interview the manager of the Bank of Australasia, with a view ot obtaining a sufficient advance on security of loan debentures, pending the raising of the loan. Resolved, on the motion of Richardson, seconded by Cr Higgin, That plans and specifications be drawn out for the formation of Churcher street, from North st. to Port street. tr Fowles moved, and Cr Worsfold seconded, That the Eugineer be instructed to make terms with the contractor for the construction of Warwick street and Fergusson street to form them the full width. Cr Loudon moved, and Cr Richardson -seconded, as an amendment, That the Engineer be instnicted that no alteration in the construction of Warwick and Fergusson streets be made. — Carried. The amendment was then put as a substantive proposition, aad carr cd. Resolved, on the motion of Cr Loudon, seconded by Cr Higgin, That tenders be called for the metalling of Fergusson and Warwick street as per specifications. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr Loudon, The name of Cr Worsfold was added to the Public Works Committee. Then Council then adjourned till Thursday, 25th inst.
